Dear Yuletide Writer 2016

Dear Yuletide Writer,
One of these Yuletides (but not this one), I'll come up with some kind of snappy and clever intro for this letter. But this year has been an extremely hectic and crazy one, so I'm just going to copy and paste last year's un-clever intro. You're so lucky. ;)
Welcome to the weirdest part of the letter to write. How many ways can I tell you thank you for writing for me? Pretty much just this one way. But it's definitely sincere! I love all three of these fandoms equally (no, seriously, I'm not shitting you at all) and will be thrilled with whatever I get. I get pretty embarrassingly giddy ANY time someone writes a fic as a gift for me, so basically, write a thing and I'll love it. I've put some info below about all of my requests, but the most important thing to me is that you enjoy the writing process and don't panic about whether I will like it or not. If you enjoy it, it will come through in the finished product, so I'll like it too.
So, on to fandoms & more -- in alphabetical order --
B E H I N D . T H E . M A S K:
THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON
Characters Requested: Leslie Vernon, Taylor Gentry
Summary: The next great psycho horror slasher has given a documentary crew exclusive access to his life as he plans his reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the conventions and archetypes of the horror genre for them. (If you like stuff like Scream or Cabin in the Woods, then this is your kind of movie, IMO.)
Availability: I haven't been able to find a place to stream this for free (it is available for cheap rental & purchase on iTunes and Google Play!), so if by chance someone actually matched on this, it's a miracle! If you did match this movie, it means you are one of the few people who saw this little gem and clearly you are awesome. So congrats on being awesome. If you're just passing by, here's a link to the trailer in case you are curious.
Thoughts/Prompts/Etc.: I've requested this for a few years now, but last year, I finally got something for it! I got this BRILLIANT treat from an equally brilliant writer. So, I'm not at all requesting this fandom again because I'm unsatisfied. I was, in fact, so satisfied with that treat, that I just want more and more and will probably request this fandom every year until I die, so I can get more wonderful fic. (Not even exaggerating, honestly. If they won't make a sequel, then I'm going to get Yuletide writers to construct one piece-by-piece.)
This year, I have only requested Taylor and Leslie. However, feel free to include any of the characters from the movie if your story requires them (Doug, Eugene, Jamie, Doc, etc.). I would love to see basically anything you can imagine happened after the movie ends. We see Leslie come back to life (because, of course), so what's next? He would definitely go after Taylor, but how would that work out? Would she become the Jamie to his Eugene and be okay with his chosen path? Or would she fight against it? She was obviously having conflicting feelings towards him during the film, so there's surely some grey area to play with there. I think any further exploration of that dynamic would be fascinating because it could go several different ways. (If you're feeling really wild, I also wouldn't say no to a crossover with another famous slasher movie - Jason, Freddy, Ghostface, Michael Myers, etc. Or something super meta with Cabin in the Woods. But I'm in no way demanding you do something like that, just throwing it out there.)
I, pretty obviously, ship Taylor/Leslie, but understand it's not a ship that everyone can get behind. So, gen fic is completely okay here. Any rating will do, and character deaths are acceptable for this particular fandom (whether it's the requested characters or other characters from the film).
C O R M O R A N . S T R I K E . S E R I E S
Characters Requested: Cormoran Strike, Robin Ellacott
Summary: Cormoran Strike, illegitimate son of a rock star and former military investigator, opens up a private detective agency in London. He's joined in his crime-solving endeavors by his assistant, Robin Ellacott. Written by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
Availability: There are 3 books in the series, Cuckoo's Calling, The Silkworm and Career of Evil, and they are available wherever books are sold and ebooks are downloaded.
Thoughts/Prompts/Etc.: THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH.
Sorry, sorry, sorry, I'll get to that, but anyway... One of the things I've loved the most about these books is watching the Cormoran and Robin relationship grow and change. Romantic notions aside, them learning to work together and trust each other (especially when Strike can be so prickly), has been really lovely. So I would be thrilled with any kind of case fic with the two of them. What I would truly love is to see Robin truly come into her own as investigator. We've seen how smart and hard-working she is, but she has yet to really hit peak confidence in her abilities. (I'd also love to see her find her strength personally as well, not just professionally.)
The ending of the last book left us hanging, so if you'd like to do something that picks up there, I'd love that too. I'm not super in to the "person interrupts wedding to profess their love" trope, and I don't think it really fits with Strike's personality, so if you took it a different way and subverted that trope a bit, that could be interesting. I'm not at all keen on the idea of Robin marrying Matthew, but if you must marry them off, please split them up immediately. But what happens from there? How does Robin react to what Strike has been through at the end of the book?
I do ship Robin and Strike romantically, and it has been the slowest of slow burns in the books (meaning, there's been no burn at all, just some tension in this most recent book). And, honestly, I'm okay with that. I wasn't even sure I shipped it in the first book, but by Career of Evil, I was so down for it. I am, of course, totally fine with gen and a focus on their friendship, so if you're not interested in romance between them, don't worry about trying to write it.
I'm okay with some of the minor characters appearing, but NO MATTHEW, unless it's exclusively for him to get kicked to the curb by Robin. Otherwise, NO MATTHEW PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
L O I S . L A N E . S E R I E S
Characters Requested: Clark Kent, Lois Lane
Summary: The Lois Lane series brings the iconic comic book character front and center in novels showcasing her life as a teenager moving to Metropolis and becoming a reporter for the first time.
Availability: Wherever books are sold and ebooks are downloaded!
Thoughts/Prompts/Etc.: Listen, I love Lois Lane in every incarnation. That's just a given. But, even I, the Lois fanatic, was skeptical about what is essentially a high school AU. But I'm glad I didn't let that skepticism keep me from reading these, because they are a DELIGHT. It's got that "girl detective" thing that I love from reading Nancy Drew as a kid and watching Veronica Mars, but instead of Nancy or Veronica, it's Lois Freakin' Lane, putting her investigative skills to work at an offshoot of The Daily Planet specifically for teen journalists.
What I'm particularly interested in reading about is the Clark and Lois relationship. Even though they've only spoken online and in a virtual reality game, it's every bit the adorable relationship of mutual respect and admiration I grew up adoring. I'm sure Gwenda Bond will have them meeting at some point (hopefully soon), but I would love to read the fic where they finally meet. Clark knows what Lois looks like, but Lois only has a vague idea. What if he saw her first? Would he tell her who he is right away? And if he didn't, how absolutely furious would she that he didn't? I'd love to see them work directly on a case together, and maybe being around Lois is what causes the journalism bug to bite Clark. If you want to explore the mystery of "The Inventor" and all of that, then go for it. I'm game for anything!
I'm also fine with you including any of Lois' friends in the story, or even her sister Lucy. (I would love to see how any or all of them react to someone like Clark.) I also feel like we, as a society, are moving past a world where Lois Lane would go on for YEARS without knowing Clark was more than just a dorky farmboy, so if there are hints at her figuring out his secret, then I'm all for it.
Obviously, because I am a living, breathing, human being with a heart, I ship Clark/Lois. If you do not, then I'm not sure how you ended up here! (I'm kidding!) But if you're not comfortable writing a romantic story between them, then gen would be fine, as long as it focuses on their friendship. (Though, to be fair, they got pretty romantic at the end of the last book, so I don't know how you'd avoid it at this point.) Since they are both still teenagers in this story, please keep any romantic aspects on a PG or PG-13 level. If you want to hit the higher rating, they must both be over 18, please.
L I K E S / D I S L I K E S
Likes: AUs, fusions, crossovers, tropes, snark, banter, adventure, fake dating, female characters who have agency, superheroes, space, darkfic is fine, so is fluff, anything rated G through NC-17 so go wild there if you want, uhh... most things. I am the worst at this. I love horror movies, so anything dark, scary or gross probably won't bother me too much.
Dislikes: Non-con or dub-con, mpreg, tentacles, scat, watersports, not really super kinky but I'm also not a prude, so, yeah, I really am the worst at this part. And while I don't equate pre-established relationship fic to the items previous mentioned, I'm also... not a big fan. It's fine in the case of ships that are already together in canon, but if you're writing one of my non-canon ships, I'd prefer gen/friendship/pre-relationship/build-to-a-relationship over pre-established fic. Also, I have a weird thing about ankle trauma, so while gore or injuries don't gross me out, any graphic depiction of an ankle injury will, so keep everyone's ankles safe please. (I know that sounds random, but I have had multiple serious ankle injuries over my life, so I'd rather not read about it in detail. Been there, done that.)
If you have any questions about specifics, want to know if you're headed in the right direction or need to know about a thing that I haven't mentioned here, please feel free to send a PM to
galfridian and she'll be able to answer any questions for you. :) Or send an e-mail through the mods. I promise I will be quick to respond.
Thanks again and happy Yuletide!
